军旅情景喜剧《大学生士兵的故事》续集讲述了几个大学生士兵在部队的成长过程。新兵连结束后,王大磊、魏语休、余丰、孙大鹏去做了机务兵。金子扬和徐帅在警卫连站了一年的岗,来喜在场务连赶了一年的鸟。为了充实机务队伍、提高机务人员的素质,他们三个经过院校机务培训分配到了机务中队一分队。王大磊做一分队代理分队长并带教金子扬、孙大鹏,魏语休带教来喜,余丰带教徐帅。故事是从三个新来的机务兵到机务中队第一天开始的。这些人不变的是各自的性格,但境遇各自差别很大,一起参军的战友成了师徒关系,有人要继续做个兵;有人由当兵到带兵;相同的学历不同的待遇;自己原来带的兵成了同事、上级、甚至竞争对手等等。王大磊是机务中队一分队代理队长,绰号青花瓷(古董之意),他外表粗犷、性格耿直,但粗中有细,带兵经验丰富,经常会想出一些新奇的怪招。这次带大学生新兵,他感到了压力。这些兵已经是第二年的兵了,多数有提干的可能。王大磊自嘲一分队是干训队,每一天都可能有人摇身一变成他的领导。对他来说这是个带兵的过程,也是个不断学习的过程。与班里的每个人都发生过这样那样的矛盾,也替自己的兵顶雷受过,最后与一分队的战友们建立了深厚的感情。多数兵提了干,继续在部队做奉献。魏语休在新兵连结束后直接去接受机务培训,性格外向、外表张扬,认为自己是接替一分队长这个职务的不二人选,随时都有可能替代王大磊。他有一定的写作能力,爱向上级写信汇报思想和情况,总是找机会展现自己的才华。班长王大磊不喜欢他这种“嘴比手勤快”的兵,他也总认为是班长故意压制他,所以经常表面上讨好班长,暗中和班长作对。余丰和魏语休一样,新兵连结束后去接受机务培训,提干兵成了机械师,带教富二代的文艺兵徐帅。他依然是做事严谨、好钻牛角尖。来喜新兵连后在场务连赶了半年鸟,被调去机务培训后分到机务一分队,他外表憨厚,内在里有农民式的小狡猾,总担心被人瞧不起,他也想提干,在部队干下去,想做出成绩,但他总是习惯偷偷摸摸的努力,跟做坏事一样。每每在大家都不看好的情况下做出一鸣惊人的举动。他有曲艺表扬的天赋,偶尔会被借到上面去做表演,这让文艺兵徐帅十分嫉妒。孙大鹏性格外向,一嘴京片子,爱开玩笑,爱搞恶作剧。经常讲自己那个“员工多达三人的IT公司“。他对提干兴趣不大,有点儿混日子的意思。按他的话说服役期满后回去继续“给自己当老板”。王大磊认为他没有上进心,以“不想提干的士兵不是好士兵”来鼓励他上进,要他在部队干下去,孙大鹏改变了混日子的想法。金子扬绰号“金子”,东北人,经常装酷,其实很宽厚。军事基本技能好,到机务分队后他的优势发挥不出来,看着图纸、数据、各种开关仪表名称就头晕。但他还是王大磊心里最喜欢的兵,处处帮助他提高业务。他自嘲要完成体能向智能的转变。徐帅外号帅子,家庭条件好,参军的目的是想考部队艺术院校。典型的阳光大男孩,开朗、活泼,爱干净疑似洁癖,有些孩子气。到了机务分队,仍然一心想从事演艺之路,考军艺。属于一般不惹事,惹事不一般的主。刘干事原来是新兵连的文书,提干后到团部宣传科做宣传干事,他聪明机灵,幽默风趣,善于抓新闻点,经常把小事放大,有时就是他惹大的。为写《大学生士兵》系列报道每天来一分队体验生活,几乎成了一分队的一员。这些人再次聚集到一起,发生着各种各样的故事。如何发挥自己的特长、如何处理好个人前途与献身国防之间的关系、如何面对提干、立功受奖等事关个人前途,如何处理感情和家庭问题等等,更加能突出大学生士兵这一主题。故事涉及到大学生士兵在部队所能遇到的各个方面,矛盾冲突戏剧性强,人物特点鲜明,故事生动、活泼、幽默,又不乏军人的坚强和感动,展现出一代大学生士兵的精神风貌。塑造了一群有理想、有知识、坚强勇敢、永不服输、甘于奉献、同时又有各自小缺点、有幽默感、有血有肉的当代军人形象。

Somewhere in the remote region, the war ends. In the midst of ruined cities and houses in the streets, in rural hamlets, everywhere where people still live, are children who have lost their homes and parents. Abandoned, hungry, and in rags, defenseless and humiliated, they wander through the world. Hunger drives them. Little streams of orphans merge into a river which rushes forward and submerges everything in its path. The children do not know any feeling; they know only the world of their enemies. They fight, steal, struggle for a mouthful of food, and violence is merely a means to get it. A gang led by Cahoun finds a refuge in an abandoned castle and encounters an old composer who has voluntarily retired into solitude from a world of hatred, treason, and crime. How can they find a common ground, how can they become mutual friends The castle becomes their hiding place but possibly it will also be their first home which they may organize and must defend. But even for this, the price will be very high. To this simple story, the journalist, writer, poet, scriptwriter, movie director, and film theoretician Béla Balázs applied many years of experience. He and the director Géza Radványi created a work which opened a new postwar chapter in Hungarian film. Surprisingly, this film has not lost any of its impact over the years, especially on a profound philosophical level. That is to say, it is not merely a movie about war; it is not important in what location and in what period of time it takes place. It is a story outside of time about the joyless fate of children who pay dearly for the cruel war games of adults. At the time it was premiered, the movie was enthusiastically received by the critics. The main roles were taken by streetwise boys of a children's group who created their roles improvisationally in close contact with a few professional actors, and in the children's acting their own fresh experience of war's turmoil appears to be reflected. At the same time, their performance fits admirably into the mosaic of a very complex movie language. Balázs's influence revealed itself, above all, in the introductory sequences an air raid on an amusement park, seen in a montage of dramatic situations evoking the last spasms of war, where, undoubtedly, we discern the influence of classical Soviet cinematography. Shooting, the boy's escape, the locomotive's wheels, the shadows of soldiers with submachine guns, the sound of a whistle—the images are linked together in abrupt sequences in which varying shots and expressive sharp sounds are emphasized. A perfectly planned screenplay avoided all elements of sentimentality, time-worn stereotypes of wronged children, romanticism and cheap simplification. The authors succeeded in bridging the perilous dramatic abyss of the metamorphosis of a children's community. Their telling of the story (the scene of pillaging, the assault on the castle, etc) independently introduced some neorealist elements which, at that time, were being propagated in Italy by De Sica, Rossellini, and other film artists. The rebukes of contemporary critics, who called attention to formalism for its own sake have been forgotten. The masterly art of cameraman Barnabás Hegyi gives vitality to the poetic images. His angle shots of the children, his composition of scenes in the castle interior, are a living document of the times, and underline the atmosphere and the characters of the protagonists. The success of the picture was also enhanced by the musical art of composer Dénes Buday who, in tense situations, inserted the theme of the Marseilaise into the movie's structure, as a motive of community unification, as an expression of friendship and the possibility of understanding. Valahol Europaban is the first significant postwar Hungarian film. It originated in a relaxed atmosphere, replete with joy and euphoria, and it includes these elements in order to demonstrate the strength of humanism, tolerance, and friendship. It represents a general condemnation of war anywhere in the world, in any form.
