这是乐坛"小魔女"范晓萱初登银幕之作，在片中饰演一名具有特异功能的大陆少女，表现相当精彩，她是整个故事的中心人物，因为她到香港后神秘失踪，引起了各方面的紧张追查，原来正面临事业与家庭危机的私家侦探张学友救了范晓萱，并把她藏在家里，他想搞清楚这是怎么一回事。其妻周海媚因生活理念不同正与他闹离婚，范的出现使三人之间产生了微妙的关系。方令正用了相当另类的手法来处理这部政治寓意相当浓厚的影片，港英当局与北京代表之间的斗智斗力随处可见，夹在中间的小人物只有机灵地见风转舵才能自保。范晓萱上一次演电影是十年前刚出道时，和张学友合作的《非常侦探》，当时她在片中的表现，就让人眼睛一亮，还入围了香港电影金像奖最佳新人。
